Mumbai Indians (MI) are running away with the 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) MI-W and GG-W, while Gujarat Giants (GG) are anything but favorites.
As the second reverse fixture of the season, the two teams will face off at the Brabourne Stadium on Tuesday, March 14.
It was one of the most one-sided contests in franchise league history when MI faced GG in the first match of the tournament. In their 20 overs, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. scored 207 runs and bowled out their opponents for 64 runs, winning by 143 runs.
Is MI able to maintain their unbeaten streak in the WPL 2023? Or will GG spring an almighty surprise?

Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. look for fifth consecutive win in WPL 2023, MI vs GG
Mumbai have benefited immensely from Yastika Bhatia’s recent form. The keeper-batter has played an important role in supporting Hayley Matthews at the top of the order, with her intent-rich knocks serving as a key indicator of her approach.
Harmanpreet Kaur has led MI to two Player-of-the-Match awards, while Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr round out a formidable top five.
With 168 runs, Matthews is the team’s leading run-scorer, while Saika Ishaque holds the Purple Cap with 12 wickets. Issy Wong has also helped the unit look well-rounded in all departments.
In contrast, GG changed some weird things for their previous match. The inclusion of Laura Wolvaardt in the side didn’t work out as planned, so Sophia Dunkley was dropped after making an 18-ball fifty. The top order needs some much-needed weight, and Dunkley should be back against MI.
The Giants’ star all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner has been a shadow of herself with the bat in WPL 2023 and hasn’t been at her best with the ball either. So far, the Aussie has scored just 44 runs at 122.22 apiece and has taken only four wickets at 9.61 apiece.
Harmanpreet and Co. are superior in practically every department, and even if they rest and rotate during the second leg of the league stage, they should be able to defeat GG regardless of Gardner’s form.
Mumbai Indians should easily win this game.
